Faculty Workshops

Teaching project-based, fieldwork-based, community-engaged studio courses can be a complex undertaking for faculty. Future Histories Lab brings together faculty experienced in this kind of teaching and those newer to these modalities to share knowledge.

Our workshops provide a chance to discuss concrete problems in the ethics of community engagement; to share wisdom on syllabus development including ways to support student group work and project management; to learn how to help students create projects with new digital or visual tools; and to access strategies for assessment for non-traditional assignments.

We work closely with the the American Cultures Engaged Scholarship program (ACES) and the Creative Discovery Fellows Program, building on their experience and of that of faculty who have created team-taught courses in the Global Urban Humanities Initiative.

Our workshops are tailored to the needs of faculty teaching our humanities studios, but others are very welcome to join. Our goal is to share knowledge and help the development of project-based, community-engaged courses across campus.  Some courses enhanced through our workshops may qualify to be listed as American Cultures courses or courses in the Certificate in Urban Humanities/Future Histories Lab program.

If you’d like to learn more about participating in our workshops, or have other questions about Future Histories Lab or the Certificate in Urban Humanities, please contact Creative Director Susan Moffat.
